Type of School: Independent Alternative Education Provider - South East Melbourne, VIC
Contract Type:
Start: ASAP

About the School

HARKE has partnered with an independent alternative education provider in Melbourne's south-east that supports students who require a more personalised and flexible approach to learning. The school focuses on re-engaging young people through relationship-based teaching, individual learning plans, and hands-on educational experiences. Small class sizes of approximately 8-15 students allow educators to build meaningful connections and provide tailored support that helps students achieve success both academically and personally.

The school works closely with industry partners to create practical learning opportunities and vocational pathways, giving students access to real-world experiences that connect learning with future employment and further study. Programs are designed around each student's individual needs, interests, and goals, creating a highly supportive and engaging learning environment.

About the Role

This full-time position is based at the Dandenong campus and involves teaching students in Years 9 and 10 within a generalist classroom model. Rather than teaching a single specialist subject, educators work across multiple curriculum areas, adapting learning to meet the individual needs of each student.

The successful teacher will create engaging, project-based learning experiences that connect curriculum outcomes with practical and real-world applications. This role is ideal for educators who value relationship-building, enjoy working with diverse learners, and are passionate about supporting students who may have disengaged from traditional schooling.

With small class sizes and strong wellbeing support, teachers are able to focus on meaningful learning, student growth, and positive educational outcomes.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated learning programs across Year 9 and 10 curriculum areas
  • Develop individual learning plans that support student engagement and achievement
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Incorporate hands-on and project-based learning experiences into classroom programs
  • Support student wellbeing through a trauma-informed and relationship-focused approach
  • Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive school culture

Requirements

  • Current VIT registration or eligibility to obtain registration
  • Relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching secondary students, particularly Years 9 and 10, highly regarded
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice or willingness to develop expertise in this area
  • Current Victorian driver's licence
  • Full Australian working rights
  • Two referees and completion of HARKE safeguarding onboarding
