Year 2/3 Teacher

HARKE has partnered with a remote bilingual school in Arnhem Land. The school currently supports approximately 150 students and works closely with local families and community members to provide culturally responsive education. Classes are supported by Indigenous Teacher Assistants, with students developing literacy in both their first language and English as they progress through primary school. Staff joining the school become part of a close community with access to a supermarket, medical clinic, reliable internet, regular flights to Darwin and an outdoor lifestyle centred around fishing, camping and the surrounding natural environment.

An opportunity has become available for a full-time Year 2/3 Teacher after the teacher originally due to commence withdrew during the school holidays. The school is now looking for a teacher who is genuinely ready to relocate, build relationships within the community and contribute to a bilingual primary setting.

The position will initially be offered on a fixed-term basis , with the possibility of continuing beyond the initial contract. The successful teacher will work alongside Indigenous Teacher Assistants and the wider school team to deliver engaging primary learning while supporting students as they develop their English literacy alongside their first language.

This role will suit a teacher who is adaptable, relationship-focused and comfortable living and working in a remote community. Teachers with children and families are also well supported within the community.

• Deliver engaging Year 2/3 learning aligned with the Australian Curriculum and the school’s bilingual approach.

• Prioritise student safeguarding, wellbeing and positive relationships within the classroom.

• Communicate respectfully and effectively with students, families, Indigenous Teacher Assistants and colleagues.

• Work collaboratively with local staff to support students transitioning towards more formal English reading and writing.

• Demonstrate flexibility, resilience and a willingness to become an active member of the wider school community.
