SENIOR TEACHER

Salary: ST1-ST3 (Dependent on Experience)
School Type: Aboriginal Community College
Location: Central Australia
Contract: Full-Time | Fixed-Term
Start: 13 July 2026 – 10 December 2026

About the School

HARKE has partnered with a unique multi-campus Aboriginal college in Central Australia, delivering education from Foundation to Year 10 across several remote communities. The college works in partnership with communities, combining high-quality teaching with culturally responsive practice and strong community engagement.

This is not a traditional teaching role. Educators become part of the community, building relationships that extend beyond the classroom and contributing to a shared vision of improving educational outcomes for young people. Staff benefit from regular opportunities to connect with colleagues across campuses, professional support from experienced leaders, and the chance to experience one of Australia's most unique and culturally rich regions.

About the Position

This position forms part of the school's leadership team and combines educational leadership with classroom teaching. The successful candidate will support staff, contribute to school improvement initiatives, and help create positive outcomes for students through strong relationships, effective teaching and collaborative leadership.

The role includes a 0.8 teaching load alongside leadership responsibilities and requires an educator who is adaptable, reflective and committed to working alongside community.

Who Will Thrive in This Role?

This opportunity is likely to suit teachers who:

  • Value relationships before results and enjoy becoming part of a community.
  • Are comfortable living and working in a remote setting.
  • Can work independently and maintain their wellbeing away from larger population centres.
  • Are curious, culturally aware and open to learning from community members and colleagues.
  • Enjoy contributing beyond the classroom through community events, cultural activities and whole-school initiatives.
  • Are seeking a meaningful professional challenge where their impact extends beyond academic outcomes.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Lead and support teachers in the planning, development and delivery of educational programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Deputy Principal and leadership team to achieve school improvement priorities.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching while maintaining a 0.8 classroom teaching load.
  • Monitor student progress and contribute to evidence-informed decision making.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, community members and key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to community events, on-country learning opportunities and whole-school programs.
  • Support a positive and culturally responsive school environment.

Requirements

  • Registration with or eligibility for Northern Territory Teacher Registration.
  • Current or ability to obtain an Ochre Card.
  • Full Australian working rights.
  • Willingness to learn and accept feedback from both leadership and community members.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Experience in remote education and/or multi-age classrooms highly regarded but not essential.
