Instrumental Music Tutor

Type of School: Catholic School in Melbourne's Western Suburbs
Contract Type: 0.6 FTE, ongoing
Start: Term 1, 2027

About the School

HARKE has partnered with a well-established Catholic school in Melbourne's western suburbs, offering a supportive, values-driven environment focused on student development, wellbeing and community. Staff benefit from a collaborative culture where individual strengths are valued and educators are encouraged to contribute to the broader life of the school.

About the Role

This ongoing 0.6 FTE Instrumental Music Tutor position will commence in Term 1, 2027. This is an instrumental tuition role rather than a classroom teaching position, with lessons delivered during the school day. The school is particularly interested in tutors who can teach strings and percussion, with the ability to teach guitar also welcomed. There is flexibility around how the 0.6 FTE timetable is structured to suit the successful candidate and the school's music program.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging individual and small-group instrumental tuition across strings, percussion and, where applicable, guitar.
  • Maintain high standards of student safeguarding, wellbeing and appropriate professional practice.
  • Communicate clearly with students, families and relevant staff regarding progress and instrumental development.
  • Collaborate with the Music team to support students' participation, confidence and development as musicians.
  • Contribute positively to the school's music program, performances and broader Catholic community.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications and demonstrated experience in instrumental music tuition
  • Ability to teach strings and percussion, with guitar experience highly regarded
  • Full Australian working rights
  • Ability to support the Catholic ethos and values of the school
  • Two professional referees and completion of HARKE's safeguarding onboarding
