Learning Enhancement Teacher – Flexible Learning Centre (Senior Years)
Salary Range:$93,000 – $131,000 + allowances
Type of School: Secondary College, Urban (Northern Territory)
Contract Type: Full-time, 12 months with view for permanency after 6 months
Start: As close to the 14th of July 2025

This role is for you if…
You’re the kind of teacher who sees the student before the behaviour. You’re calm in the face of chaos, firm but compassionate, and deeply curious about how young people learn - especially those who’ve had a tough road. You know that teaching literacy sometimes means going back to phonics and doing it with patience, respect, and cultural awareness. You believe in fresh starts and second chances.

If you're ready to teach senior students (Years 10–12) in a flexible, offsite learning space where every day is different — and every connection counts — this is your opportunity.

About the Program
This isn’t a mainstream classroom. You’ll be part of a team of three, working with up to 15 students (about 7 attend regularly), many of whom are Aboriginal young people. Some are transitioning back from detention or re-engaging after significant trauma. Behaviour can be complex, but the environment is built on Positive Behaviour and restorative practices — not suspension (unless in cases of violence or aggression).

You’ll deliver targeted, high-impact literacy support, focusing on building confidence and capability in adolescents who may not have experienced much success in school. You’ll have the freedom to ask the right questions, track progress with data, and shape your approach to suit the learner, not the other way around.

What We’re Looking For
We’re not after someone perfect. We’re looking for someone real.

You’ll need:

  • A background in literacy support, EALD, special education, or adolescent learning

  • Confidence working independently and collaboratively

  • A calm, relational approach to behaviour

  • The willingness to learn from students, listen deeply, and show up with consistency

  • Strong knowledge of phonics, reading strategies, and how to differentiate for a range of literacy levels in senior students

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • Connection to Country – Live and work on Arrernte land, surrounded by red desert, stories, and community

  • Free Accommodation – The school can cover your first 6 months in refurbished staff housing (shared space with other staff in a former hotel)

  • Relocation Assistance – Flights or travel reimbursements provided

  • Retention Bonus – $1,000 after your first term and $2,500 at the end of the year

  • Work That Matters – Be part of a team offering genuine second chances and life-changing connection

Requirements

  • Registration: Eligible for NT Teacher Registration

  • Work Rights: Full working rights in Australia

  • Safeguarding: Two references and completion of HARKE’s onboarding process

  • Direct access to school leaders and hiring managers

  • Real advice, honest conversations, and professional support

  • Interview coaching, relocation tips, and a team who actually listens
