The program combines outdoor education, urban learning experiences, and service-based projects to support holistic student development. About the Program
The Year 9 Experiential Learning Program strengthens belonging, independence, resilience, and a sense of purpose through:
- Outdoor Expeditions – including short and extended bushwalks, multi-day hiking camps, and an end-of-year outdoor challenge.
- Urban Learning Days – five collaborative city-based experiences across Term 2.
- Service Learning Projects – a multi-day community service initiative in regional Victoria.
Teachers guide students through practical challenges, model positive relationships, support spiritual and personal development, and help students apply classroom learning to real-world contexts.
Skills and Responsibilities

Facilitate outdoor, urban, and service-based learning experiences for Year 9 students.

Promote student resilience, confidence, teamwork, and interpersonal growth.

Integrate curriculum knowledge from HPE, Science, Maths, and Humanities into applied learning environments.

Maintain strong safety, safeguarding, and environmental standards across all activities.

Support a values-based school culture and contribute to the school’s Christian ethos.
Requirements
- Registration: VIT registration or eligibility to obtain it.
- Qualifications: Teaching degree; Certificate III in Outdoor Education (or willingness to undertake online training).
- Experience: Outdoor education, bushwalking, or experiential learning experience.
- Work Rights: Full Australian work rights.
- Safeguarding: Two referees and completion of HARKE’s onboarding process.
