English Teacher – Years 7–10
Salary Range:$89,000–$135,000 pro-rata (0.8 FTE)
Type of School: High-achieving Independent School in St Kilda
Contract Type: Part-time (0.8 FTE)
Start Date: Immediate or negotiable

About the School
HARKE has partnered with a leading independent school in the heart of St Kilda, known for its academic excellence, innovative programs, and strong sense of community. With a proud history of nurturing confident, curious, and compassionate learners, the school offers a vibrant and collaborative environment for both students and staff. Teachers are supported by outstanding professional development opportunities and a culture that values creativity, reflection, and continuous growth.

About the Role
This 0.8 FTE role offers a balanced and rewarding teaching load: English across Year 10, Year 8 (two classes), and Year 7, with two full days off (Day 2 and Day 3). It’s the perfect opportunity for an educator who enjoys teaching across the junior secondary years and is seeking meaningful part-time work within a high-performing school.

You’ll be joining a forward-thinking English faculty that values deep thinking, student voice, and a love of literature. Whether you’re returning to teaching after time away or seeking a new role with built-in flexibility, this position allows you to focus on high-quality teaching while maintaining a healthy work-life rhythm.

Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking an engaging, thoughtful, and organised English teacher who thrives on building strong relationships with students and bringing texts to life in the classroom. You’re someone who sets high expectations, yet teaches with warmth and humour. You enjoy working collaboratively, are confident with Years 7–10 curriculum, and bring both structure and creativity to your lessons.

This role will suit a teacher who values connection — with students, colleagues, and the wider school community - and is energised by the opportunity to contribute meaningfully, even in a part-time capacity.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated English lessons for Years 7–10

  • Build strong rapport with students and foster a positive classroom culture

  • Work collaboratively within a high-performing English department

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of curriculum and resources

  • Model professionalism and enthusiasm for literature and language

Requirements

  • Registration: Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain VIT registration

  • Work Rights: Full working rights in Australia are essential for this role

  • Safeguarding: Applicants must provide two current referees and complete HARKE’s onboarding process to meet safeguarding requirements
