About the Position

An opportunity is available for an experienced English educator to join the school as Head of Department - English from Term 1, 2027. This ongoing leadership position combines departmental leadership with teaching English across Years 7-12. The successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of the English curriculum, mentor and support teaching staff, and maintain a strong classroom presence across both junior and senior secondary English.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Curriculum: Lead the planning, implementation and review of the English curriculum, supporting high-quality teaching and learning across the department.

  • Safeguarding: Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive environment that prioritises student wellbeing and meets safeguarding expectations.

  • Communication: Build strong professional relationships and communicate effectively with students, staff, families and school leadership.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with English teachers and the broader leadership team to strengthen teaching practice, curriculum delivery and student outcomes.

  • Leadership: Lead, mentor and support the English department while contributing to whole-school priorities and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Registration: Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) registration.

  • Work Rights: Full working rights in Australia are required.

  • English: Demonstrated experience and capability teaching Secondary English.

  • Safeguarding: Applicants must provide current professional referees and complete HARKE Recruitment's onboarding and safeguarding requirements.
