About the School

HARKE Recruitment is partnering with a Catholic independent secondary college in Western Melbourne. The college is a large and well-established dual-campus school known for its inclusive learning community, commitment to staff wellbeing, and dedication to fostering excellence in both teaching and leadership.

About the Position

The Deputy Principal (Professional Practice & Staff Wellbeing) is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing staff wellbeing, professional growth, and engagement across both campuses. This full-time, permanent role includes a three-year tenure and represents a key leadership opportunity within the college’s executive team.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with senior leaders to ensure staff feel supported, valued, and heard, while maintaining a culture of professionalism, trust, and wellbeing.

Teaching Load:

  • 26 periods per fortnight (approximately one class)

  • Open to any teaching subject – selection will prioritise leadership capacity over teaching method

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives to promote staff wellbeing, including wellbeing days and related programs

  • Oversee staff recruitment, appointments, and placements

  • Manage and support the Director of Professional Practice and VIT Mentors

  • Provide a trusted and approachable point of contact for staff at all levels

  • Supervise a Personal Assistant providing administrative support to the role

  • Contribute to the college’s overall strategic and pastoral leadership

Candidate Profile

This position will suit an experienced school leader currently serving as a Deputy Principal, Assistant Principal, or Director, as well as emerging leaders seeking to progress into an executive leadership role.

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, staff development, or wellbeing

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative leadership style

  • Alignment with Catholic values and ethos, and capacity to support the faith life of the school community

  • A personal or professional connection to the Church is desirable but not essential

Remuneration

Remuneration will reflect the seniority of the role and the large, dual-campus nature of the school. Salary will be significantly above classroom teacher rates and aligned with the relevant EBA classification.

Requirements

  • Registration: Current VIT registration (or eligibility)

  • Work Rights: Full working rights in Australia

  • Safeguarding: Two current referees and completion of HARKE’s safeguarding process
