Contract Type: Full-time, ongoing

About the School

HARKE has partnered with a remote, community-led school in North East Arnhem Land that delivers a deeply embedded bi-cultural and bi-literacy education model. The school is guided by local Elders and community, with a strong focus on learning on Country, identity, and self-determination. Teaching extends far beyond the classroom, with students engaging in applied, real-world learning through land-based programs, ranger activities, enterprise initiatives, and community projects. Educators who thrive here are those who value cultural learning, are committed to relationship-building, and are motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a close-knit community.

About the Position

This ongoing role involves teaching a small multi-age class of Year 7–10 students, delivered through an Upper Primary model with a strong focus on foundational literacy and numeracy. The position requires a primary-trained teacher confident in early literacy and numeracy instruction, working alongside Yol?u Team Teachers to deliver a bi-literacy program in both English and Djambarrpuy?u. Teaching is highly collaborative and extends beyond traditional classroom settings, with a strong emphasis on outdoor, land-based learning and culturally responsive practice. This is a unique opportunity for a teacher who is adaptable, community-focused, and motivated by a different way of teaching and learning.

Skills and Responsibilities

  • Deliver literacy and numeracy programs within a multi-age classroom, integrating curriculum with outdoor and applied learning experiences

  • Ensure student safety and wellbeing across diverse learning environments, including on Country and community-based settings

  • Communicate effectively with Yol?u co-teachers, families, and community members to support student learning and engagement

  • Collaborate closely within a teaching team to co-plan and deliver bi-cultural and bi-literacy programs

  • Demonstrate leadership in adapting teaching practice to a remote context, embedding learning in real-life, land-based experiences

Requirements

  • Registration: Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain Northern Territory Teacher Registration.

  • Work Rights: Full working rights in Australia are essential for this role.

  • Safeguarding: Applicants must provide two current referees and complete HARKE’s onboarding process to meet safeguarding requirements.
