CV Polish: Get Ready for the Christmas Hiring Window
Lauren H • November 16, 2025

The perfect time to refresh, refine, and get noticed.

It’s that time of year when the calendar says “slow down,” but smart teachers know this is the perfect time to prepare. December isn’t just for wrapping gifts — it’s for wrapping up your CV so you’re ready for the next opportunity.

At HARKE Recruitment, we often see schools make final staffing decisions right through to mid-December. A polished, well-structured CV ensures you’re at the top of the shortlist when those opportunities arise.

1. Start with structure

Your CV should be simple, professional, and easy to scan. Use clear section headings like:

  • Professional Summary
  • Education and Accreditation
  • Teaching Experience
  • Key Skills and Achievements
  • Referees

Keep your format clean — consistent fonts, plenty of white space, and no fancy graphics. Recruiters and principals want substance, not style.

2. Lead with value

Your professional summary is your first impression. In three or four lines, tell schools who you are and what you offer. Example:
“Enthusiastic primary teacher with a passion for literacy and student wellbeing. Experienced in differentiated instruction and committed to fostering inclusive, engaging classrooms.”

3. Quantify your impact

Whenever possible, use evidence to show impact:

  • “Improved reading outcomes by 20% across the class.”
  • “Led small-group intervention improving student attendance.”
Numbers make your achievements tangible and memorable.

4. Update references and certifications

Check that your Working with Children Check, VIT/NESA registration, and First Aid are up to date. Contact referees early — they’ll appreciate the heads-up before end-of-year chaos hits.

5. Keep it current and concise

Two to three pages is ideal. Remove older or irrelevant content and make sure your most recent achievements stand out. Avoid jargon, acronyms, or filler phrases — clarity wins every time.

A refreshed CV gives you confidence — and schools notice when candidates present themselves professionally.
